Ari Liberman - 32Q
Hi my name is Ari. I am a sophomore here at Animas High School. This semester I have grown and changed in many ways. I am proud to say that I feel I have grown in many areas both in and outside of school and I am excited for what future years at Animas have to offer.
Things to celebrate:
One Celebration is that I have been putting more effort into my work. This year I have been focusing on making my work as good as possible. I have been spending a more time on it. One example of this is in biology. On our infographic and research paper project Tina told me that our project was not even above the passing mark and that I needed to make serious changes or I would fail. We had originally picked a topic that didn’t have enough data on it to complete our project. This poor topic choice almost cost me the entire project. In a desperate attempt to make sure I didn’t fail, I decided to switch my topic just a week before my project was due. I spent many hours outside of school each day working on my project to make it really good. If I wasn’t in such a situation I probably wouldn’t have felt pressure to improve my project and I am sure without all the extra work I wouldn’t have had a project that I could be proud of.
My next celebration is my improvement in attention to detail, specifically in my graphic designing. This year, although none of my classes required it, I have been working on my graphic designing. When I make a design it takes me hours and I pay close attention to detail. Here is one of my designs that required attention to detail. Before this year, I took a digital media class which introduced me to a lot of methods that I use in my art. Although I am no longer taking that class I want to be sure my work is still improving and so I spend a lot of my free time designing and learning new concepts. Some evidence that I am paying a lot of attention to detail is that, my art has improved so much that I am now being hired by musicians to design their cover art.
Another celebration is most of my grades. Most of my grades this year have been really good and I have worked really hard on the ones that I am less proud of. I have spent a lot of time trying to get all my grades up to A’s. I have talked to each of my teachers multiple times to make sure I am achieving this goal. Although I don’t think that some of my grades reflect my best effort I do believe that most of my grades show that I have been doing my very best to keep them up. I am also working on accountability and turning in my work on time. You can see examples of this by looking at my infinite campus and seeing how few
Areas for growth:
This year in biology the biggest project we did was our ecology project which involved researching environmental issues and writing a proposal as well as making an infographic. After weeks of research on another topic with the deadline just four days away I decided that I wanted this project to be work I could be proud of and we decided to switch topics last minute. Because of this I had to spend hours each night working to get my project finished. This lesson will help me work on my time management because I should have switched our project sooner instead of working on a project that was poorly chosen, wasting my time and energy.
Another area for growth I have is staying on task. A lot of time throughout the semester I have found myself getting very off task. I find that I have been letting myself get off task and be unproductive way too much. Far too often I find that I let myself get off task by doing things like going on my phone or walking around. Recently I have been working on being more accountable about staying in class and on task. I have started to make progress towards my goal by starting to use strategies that keep me on task. A strategy that I have been using lately is that if I have a hard time staying off my phone I will make a specific goal of what I will get done before I go on it again and I will put it away until then.
As I am finishing up the semester here at Animas and preparing to go to Israel next semester the question that I find myself asking is; how will this experience change me as a person?
